3 tips to get more eyes on your LinkedIn profile

by Davina Schonle | 3 May, 2022 | Business

LinkedIn is an essential tool for any business selling into corporates. It allows us to seek out and connect with key contacts, prove our expertise and build trust, as well as expand our reach.

But what we so often see, is business owners only using it at the base level, and not utilising it to it’s full potential.

When used correctly, LinkedIn can really boost your business outreach exponentially – and it’s a free tool!

Here are 3 tips to help you leverage LinkedIn.

1: Profile and Header

This may seem straightforward and simple, but you’d be surprised how many profiles don’t use appropriate and sensible profile and cover photos.

The biggest pitfall we’ve seen is using a picture of yourself on a night out, because you’ve made an effort and you’re dressed up to the nines! It doesn’t come across as professional and as a result of this, you will likely make less connections. Our advice would be to use a professional close-up in business attire.

As for the cover photo, really use this as a visual element of your brand. Don’t opt for the LinkedIn cover photos, use a cover photo that matches your branding or even use the cover photo to advertise the latest thing you want consumers to see.

Remember, other than your name. These photos are the two things your potential connections will see first, so leave them with a positive first impression!

2: Customise your URL

When you first sign up with LinkedIn, you’re given a custom URL, this is usually just a bunch of numbers and letters. It’s safe to say that it won’t look pretty on a business card or at the bottom of your website!

But what some people don’t know is: If you go into View Profile, then click on Edit Public Profile and URL, you can get rid of your custom-made URL with confusing numbers at the end and change it to whatever you like, providing that it hasn’t already been taken by another LinkedIn user!

Suddenly, your brand becomes a lot easier to find when it’s just your name or the company name in your URL.

3: Private Mode

You may have emails coming through from LinkedIn themselves saying that someone from LinkedIn ‘has viewed your profile.’ But if you’re scouting competitors or even investigating a potential lead, you may not want them to see that you’ve been looking at their profile.

Going private is perfect to use if you’re doing research and don’t want people to know that you’re looking at their profile.

To Access this option, click on the drop-down arrow under your Profile Picture that says ‘Me.’ Under ‘Account’ click on ‘Settings & Privacy’ and then ’Visibility’ and ‘Visibility of your Brand and Profile’ and finally select Private then save.

They will still get the email saying someone has viewed them, but you can control what it says in profile viewing options. For example, it could say ‘Someone from S2C: Selling into Corporates has viewed your profile’ or it could say ‘Anonymous LinkedIn member has viewed you profile”, you choose what you want it to say!

Even just leveraging those three tips we’ve shared with you here could be a game-changer for how much of a contribution LinkedIn makes to your marketing and sales process. Give them a go today.
